Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the Gadfly app ("Gadfly", "we", "us") handles information when you use it. Gadfly is a gamified app for learning philosophy. We keep this simple: we collect the minimum needed to save your progress and let you sign in, and we do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

Information we collect

• Account information. When you create an account we use Firebase Authentication (a Google service). Depending on how you sign in, this may include your email address (email sign-in), a Google account identifier (Google sign-in), or nothing personally identifying at all (guest / anonymous sign-in). We never see or store your password — authentication is handled by Firebase.
• Learning progress. We store your in-app progress so it syncs across your devices: experience points, streaks, completed lessons, badges, in-app currency (drachmas), owned cosmetic items, and your app settings. This is stored in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore), keyed to your account identifier.
• Basic app analytics. Gadfly may use Firebase/Google Analytics to understand aggregate, non-identifying usage (for example, how many people finish a lesson) so we can improve the app.
• Device notification permission. If you turn on streak reminders, the app schedules notifications locally on your device. We do not send these from a server and they do not transmit personal data.

We do not collect your contacts, precise location, photos, or any sensitive personal information, and Gadfly contains no third-party advertising.

How we use information

• To create and secure your account and let you sign in.
• To save your learning progress and sync it across your devices.
• To send the daily streak reminders you opt into (scheduled on your device).
• To understand aggregate usage and improve the app.

How information is shared

We do not sell your personal information. Your data is processed by our service provider Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, and Analytics) solely to provide the app's functionality. Google's handling of this data is governed by the Firebase Privacy and Security terms. We may disclose information if required by law.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your account and progress data for as long as your account exists. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from within the app: go to Settings → Delete account. This removes your saved progress from our database and deletes your authentication record. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.

Children's privacy

Gadfly is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under that age. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Your choices

• You can play as a guest without providing an email.
• You can turn notifications on or off at any time in your device settings or in the app.
• You can delete your account and all data from within the app.
• You may request a copy of your data or ask questions by contacting us below.

Security

Your saved data is protected by Firebase security rules that restrict each account's data to that account. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
